The third and final subject-matter hearing about Senate Bill 1666, which would require labeling of foods made with genetically modified organisms, was help Sept. 17 in Chicago. State Senator Dave Koehler (D-Peoria), the bill's sponsor, says the next step is to meet with the full Senate Agriculture Committee to get the bill on the floor for a vote.
The second in a series of subject-matter hearings about Senate Bill 1666, known as the Genetically Engineered Food Labeling Act, was held at the Student Center on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
The first in a series of hearings about Senator Dave Koehler's proposal to label genetically engineered foods was held June 20 at Bone Student Center on the campus of Illinois State University. An estimated 300 people attended the subject-matter hearing, and eight people gave testimony.
